K-WILL Opens U.S. Headquarters
K-WILL Corporation has established a U.S. headquarters to market a line of digital video monitoring systems that provide accurate, real-time analysis of digital video and audio quality.
KDDI Media Will, a venture spinout of telecom giant KDDI and the Tokyo-based parent of K-WILL, has established a strong presence with broadcasters, telecom service providers, research institutions, systems integrators, production studios and professional broadcast equipment manufacturers that want to ensure they deliver high quality digital video to customers. The decision to open a U.S. subsidiary was made last fall.
"We've made solid in-roads into the equipment providers and broadcast arena in Japan, and with the launch of K-WILL - America, we are well positioned to serve the needs of our customers in North America," Takami Kanatsu, managing director, K-WILL Corporation, said.
The U.S. market for new broadcast engineering equipment to support high definition HDTV broadcast is growing at a very fast rate with a market size estimated to be in the billions.
K-WILL's product line is based on a patented three-layered noise weighting technology developed in the KDDI R&D Laboratories, called "Video DNA." K-WILL's automated systems not only check signal protocol and format, but also perform error detection and quality measurement of video and audio in real time.
"Customers find utilizing the patented 'Video DNA' technology reduces operating costs and improves quality of service, as well as eliminating the potential for human error inherent with typical video visual inspection processes," Kanatsu explained.
K-WILL decided to locate its U.S. headquarters in the Los Angeles area because of the huge concentration of studios, manufacturers and broadcasters based in Hollywood and the greater Southern California area. Along with New York City, Los Angeles is a stronghold for the broadcast TV industry -- while maintaining its world leadership position in big-screen movie productions.
"The Southern California location made perfect sense for our U.S. headquarters,"Kanatsu explained. "Not only will we be close to our client base, but we'll have access to some of the best broadcast engineering talent in the world."
